CHUO

Chuo map

Chuo City

  • The Tsukiji Market - wander around the fish market to glimpse at the abundance of delicacies. Then shop at the wider market

  • Nakagin Capsule Tower - a representation of a very special moment in the post-war architecture. It celebrates the utopian ideas of interchangeability and flexibility; however, if you are not an architectural geek, it is just a very weird and cool building to take a look at

  • Hamarikyu Gardens - a large garden with a seawater pond and a traditional Japanese architecture, incuding the Tea House in the centre of it

  • Tea-ceremony with matcha green tea and traditional sweets are served daily in the Nakashima Tea House in Hamarikyu Gardens

  • Tsukiji Hongwan-ji Temple - one of Tokyo's jewels. Visiting a Buddhist Temple in Tokyo is a must, and this is one of the grandest and most beautiful ones!

Ginza district

  • Ginza Nissan Crossing Cafe - get your face printed on a coffee while enjoying a great view on Ginza from the terrace

  • Visit various galleries of Ginza  - my personal favourites are Ginza Graphic Gallery and METoA

  • Chuo-dori - one of the best shopping streets of Tokyo, which is also quite great for window shopping or a simple walk

  • Ginza's showrooms - Shiseido The Store is my personal favourite

  • Dover Street Market Ginza

  • Ginza Six Shopping Mall

  • Suzuran Street - a small Ginza street with shops and restaurants

  • Morimae Ginza Bonsai shop

Roppongi

  • 21_21 Design Sight - the building alone is worth a visit (Tadao Ando at his finest) and , of course, the variety of multi-media exhibitions that take place in this gallery

  • Roppongi Hills

  • Tokyo Midtown Design Hub

  • Art museums, little design galleries, shops, coffee houses and night life - an area worth coming to, wondering around the streets and finding your unique places (museum "musts" -  National Art Center, Roppongi Hills' Mori Art Museum, Tokyo Midtown's Suntory Museum of Art)

SHINJUKU

Shinjuku map
  • Tokyo Metropolitan Government building  - South and North Observatories offer free observation decks with good panoramic views of Tokyo and beyond

  • Shinjuku Omoide Yokochō  - tiny street filled with bars and barbecue stands (make sure to try Ramen in one of the multiple places)

  • VR park Tokyo Shibuya - Tokyo has a reputation as THE high-tech center of the world. True or not, the VR parks are a fun way to become immersed in the world of technology

  • Shibuya Crossing - believed to be one of the busiest crossings in the world (walk in all 5 directions but also take a look at it from above - from the second floor of Shibuya Tsutaya store)

  • Hachikō statue - pet the faithful pup and become a bit closer to the heartbreaking legend

  • Koe shop and cafe - not only is Hotel koé Tokyo a nice place to stay in on your vacation, it is also a cool spot to shop or have a coffee

  • Harajuku area - main road with adjacent streets, dedicated to Japanese youth culture and fashion

  • Meiji Shrine + adjacent Yoyogi Park - while visiting the Shrine and the forest, don't miss the traditional Inner Garden, a hidden "power spot"

  • Kawaii Monster Kafe - a great place to immerse yourself into the world of Japanese youth pop culture (although, to be fair, wouldn't recommended this place for the food or design, but more as an unusual experience)

  • Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku

  • Takeshita Dori (Takeshita Street) and its side streets, which are lined by many trendy shops, fashion boutiques, used clothes stores, crepe stands and fast food outlets

  • Ota Memorial Museum of Art

  • Kaminamiron - meaning “thunder gate”
